This is what a real bicycle path looks like. Australian planners take note. (a) there is a complete absence of hills. (b) no cyclist wears Lycra because they never break into a sweat. See (a) above and the low temperatures.
I'm envious of the Belgian chocolates and wondering when Australians became famous for making ice-cream? It's not just cyclists around Sydney who wear Lycra. Even people taking their dogs for a walk seem to feel the need for a special outfit. You don't see that in Europe.
I was told that the owner of the ice cream shop got the idea on his honeymoon in Australia. I haven't tried the ice cream, but I'm told it is good.
I agree that cycling in Australia has become macho and machetto, whereas here it is just a means to an end. Also, helmets are not compulsory here which makes it easier and makes shrt term rental schemes practical.
