Gulp!!!!

I watched the Tour of France last night, and it showed the cyclists going through the Pyrenees, about 100km East of the first stage I plan to walk, from St Jean Pied de Ports to Roncevalles. It was very scenic but misty. A similar stage is shown in this video. I think I need to redouble my training efforts!!!

  1. Are you walking with a back pack yet? Perhaps you'll need a weekend in the Blue Mountains or do circuits up Awaba Street and back down Mandalong Road. If you're doing less than 10k (no hill climbs)at a reasonable pace one morning next week I might join you!

    1. I had a backpack on Monday, but there wasn't much in it. I did an Awaba/Mandalong circuit the other day and I felt the descent more than the climb more in my calves and feet.
The stocks are a big help. They are also a conversation starter, with the result that I keep meeting people who have recently done, or plan to do the Camino. One of these told me that she felt very tired each night and thought she couldn't face the next day, but got some energy from somewhere and started well the next day. Who is the patron saint of pilgrims? I'll let you know if I'm doing a walk next week.

  2. I think that's St James - definitely patron saint of pilgrims walking the Camino! And it's his feast day on Wednesday.

  3. Dag Paul, I have done those 3 cols in 1976 by car, sleeping in a tent on the top of the Tourmalet, free camping great experience. In the beginning of the video you could see Pau and Oloron. That was the first day of the second part, crossing the Pyrenees via Somport. Sunny weather conditions end of August 2010.
