Milepost

I saw this sign yesterday.
I just had a coffee with two Catalan men, and they told me Astorga has very good food, so no pilgrim menu for me tonight.
They also told me that there are 4 languages in Spain, Castillian, Catalan, Basque and Potugese, since Portugese is spoken in Santiago. I didn't know that.

  1. Dag Paul, Santiago is a city in Gallicia. So their proper language is Gallician not Portugese. Just speak Castilliano in Spain. And Astorga is a beautiful old Roman city with famous chocolate. Smakelijk. Bart

  2. I will try to buy chocolate this morning. Last night I had cocido maragato: 3 plates, boiled meats, boiled vegetables followed by soup. A huge meal but I seem to have recovered.
Some people tell me I should buy a scarf, gloves and a beanie for the mountain.

  3. Paul it seems you had a bean-feast in Astorga. But what is a beanie ? The bean-mini of mr. bean ? Keep walking uphill. Bart

  4. Now doewsn't that number look much better than the original 680km or so? I think it might be hard for you to stop walking though when you do reach Santiago! Elaine
